President’s Message Spring & Summer 2025

Liz Bicknell, FMCBC President July 2025

Hello members!

Welcome to our new Cloudburst Connect Series for Summer 2025!

This season marks a meaningful shift for our Federation, not just in how we share stories, but in how we show up for each other. We’ve officially launched Cloudburst Connect to amplify the voices of our clubs and members in a more frequent, accessible, and engaging format.

We’re showing that our collective voice is worth listening to, and it matters. From trail rebuilds and climate reflections to inter-club collaborations and hut updates, the stories in this edition reflect the strength, creativity, and passion of BC’s non-motorized outdoor community.

Meanwhile, implementation of our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan is well underway. You’ll see it reflected in the ways we’re expanding our core priorities: advocacy, stewardship, and community-building — not just in theory, but in action.

With monthly webinars, roundtables, and new partnerships supporting strategic collaboration, 2025 has been a year of momentum. And we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for fall and winter initiatives that will spotlight long-standing needs: safety, leadership succession, biodiversity, and youth engagement — all tied to our mission of protecting and enhancing backcountry experiences.

As I prepare to step down as President later this year and transition into the role of Past President, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together, including energizing our communications, strengthening club connections, and supporting members in new ways. I look forward to seeing how the next chapter unfolds.

If you, or someone you know, is passionate about outdoor recreation and community leadership, this is your opportunity to help shape the future of backcountry advocacy in BC. See our website for more information on this. We’ll be sharing more soon about the upcoming transition for FMCBC’s next President.

Thank you, as always, for your support and for everything you bring to your club, your hard work, and your community.

President of FMCBC, Liz Bicknell
